Short Story en reflecion by ~Ruleroftheblind:iconRuleroftheblind:

Once upon a time there was a young girl on the brink of adulthood, we shall call her Lindsay.  She was a bit of a loner, yeah she had a few friends but she didn't really hang out with them outside of school.  And now that she had graduated she rarely saw anyone other than her family.  Lindsay was quite good looking and suprisingly smart.  She'd do well on her tests, though she generally didn't ever bother to do any homework.  No one ever really paid attention to her though because she always kept her head down and voice low.
One night, when Lindsay was reading in her bedroom she got the urge to go out for a short walk around the neighborhood, which she'd done countless times in the past.  Tonight however, would be a very different experience.
Rounding the corner down the street from her house, the July air blowing her long brown hair behind her shoulders, there was a brief flash and a tall, dark clothed man was standing before her.  His skin was pale, smooth, almost reflective, and his eyes seemed to be gateways to another dimension full of bright explosive colors and emotion.  He opened his mouth, revealing fangs that glistened in the moonlight, and spoke, "Come with me," he said, "come with me and live a life of eternal beauty, of passion and excitement, of drama and action.  Come live the immortal life of the universe's most decadent, grandeur, exquisite creature, the vampire!  Never grow old!  Never be sick!  Never again will you answer to anyone other than yourself!  I will be king and you will be queen.  We will rule the night as only the immortal can!  Be my companion through all of time's ages, through all of mankind's triumphs and failures.  Come with me.  Be with me."  As he stopped his words seemed to echo, dancing off into the night and hiding behind corners and bushes.  A nearly invisible smile crept up the corner of the mysterious man's mouth.
Mulling things over for a half a second, Lindsay spoke, "No, thank you, I'm going to college in a month to further pursue my art.  But once again, thank you for the offer, sir."
Taken aback the man gathered his wits and almost pleaded, "But you will live forever as you are now!  You'll never deal with old age or disease!  I am giving you the chance that millions have dreamt of for millenia, to be eternally beautiful in the macabre requiem of the world!"
Slightly more agitated now, "Sir, I'm sorry for disappointing you, but I really must be going.  Have a nice night."  With that she brushed past him and went on her way home and lived out the rest of her long mortal life in peace, forever content knowing that instead of being a shallow bastard that could've been beautiful forever, she chose to enjoy her own life, embracing all her wrinkles, and gray hair, and illness.
She died at the age of 85 with a loving husband, four children, eight grand children and one great grandchild.

Author's Comments

Don't get me wrong, I love vampires and all that crap as much as the next person, but seriously, it makes me sick to see all these people that take it too far or too seriously and become these shallow husks that don't care for anything more than sex and drama and so on and so forth.

Achieve something real. Live something good. Experience the world around you and love every second of it.
